I find it a bit ridiculous when I look at some of the want ads on craigslist for web developers. I have been coding since the mid 90’s and have come across A LOT of requests and have done A LOT of troubleshooting and tinkering to get things to work.
I am not sure if there are actually people out there in the that could possibly live up to the requests people are making for skills. I saw an ad today that wanted a developer to know SQL, AJAX, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and XML. OK not to bad that’s pretty much standard these days, but they throw in PHP, FLEX, FLASH, Actionscript and then you need to know how to maintain basically all of the latest Blogging engines. Don’t forget all the open source Drupals, Joomla, Social Networking, Podcasting, Web 2.0, 25 top eCommerce solutions.
By the way you know how to maintain LINUX/Windows server environments don’t you? Oh and how about all the latest Video editing software like Final Cut Pro, Premiere, After Effects? Matter of fact the entire CS3 suite of tools inside and out.
Come on! Who can possibly know every application and programming language and be that versatile?
Am I behind the times? Is everybody out there a Wed Developer Superstar? A professional designer, color expert, digital photography, CSS, videography guru?
I personally think it’s amazing that people can ask all of this from one person and not a specialized team!
Any thoughts?
